Good to know fun facts about Waimea Bay
If you can’t read the tiny text…
"Located at the mouth of the Waimea Valley, the Bay has been created by millions of years of rainwater flowing down from the upper reaches of Oahu and then running out of the valley into the ocean.
The huge amounts of freshwater flowing out into the ocean change the salinity of the water, which inhibits the growth of coral reef.
As a result, the underwater bathymetry of Waimea Bay is primarily eroded lava rock and shelves, with sand ebbing and flowing through the middle of the bay.
