Hawaii is one of the world’s top wedding and honeymoon destinations, and for all of you newlyweds, here are a few tips for a successful marriage…

  • Continue dating each other and plan one date each week.
  • Pay more attention to your spouse than your phone.
  • Back massages fix almost anything.
  • Start a new hobby together.
  • Have a real, meaningful conversation about something you usually don’t talk about.
  • Show appreciate at least three times every day.
  • Touch, kiss & hug each other at least once a day.
  • Be the first to forgive or say “I’m sorry,” (even though of course it wasn’t your fault.)
  • Don’t hide your spending habits from each other.
  • Inspire each other to be better every day.
  • Learn to compromise.
  • Don’t give up on each other.
  • Surprise each other with a gift, even a little one.
  • Attack problems, not each other.
  • Make sure you have an updated insurance policy and will.
  • Repeat your vows to each other.
  • Start saving for retirement now… as in, today.
  • Have a 3-6 month emergency fund.
  • Treat each other with respect.
  • Meet every week to talk about money.
  • Do things together that make you both laugh- “The couple that laughs together stays together."
  • Be friends & treat each other like friends.
  • Set aside a budget and stick with it.
  • Stay away from debt… far away.
  • Take a dance class together.
  • Cook something new together.
  • Appreciate your partner for who he/she is, not who you want him/her to be.
  • Celebrate wins as a couple, even if they’re small.
  • Go on a bike ride.
  • Go on a true adventure with each other.
  • Set realistic expectations.
  • Go stargazing.
  • Focus on being better, not being right.
  • Make time for each other, always.
  • Don’t take life too seriously.
  • Pick your battles, and ask yourself with each one “what’s the desired outcome?”
  • Create your own traditions.
  • Say “I love you” every day.
  • Set a goal to try at least one new thing each month.
  • Recreate your first date.
  • Go on a picnic, a real one with a little basket and all that.
  • Watch your spouse’s favorite movie with him/her.
  • Go out and buy each other a gift for under $1.
