What areas should you avoid on in Waikiki, on Oahu, or other islands?
There are no real dangerous parts of Waikiki, but Lewers Steet can get a bit drunk and rowdy after 3am and Chinatown is pretty much sketchy all of the time except daytime.
Also, on any island, if you ever see a sign that say “kapu,” that means stay out. It may be something as simple as it’s private property and the owners cherish their privacy, or it might be a not-so legal operation going on and you’ll be chased out with who knows what.
Hawaii has rainbows, dolphins and shave ice, and it also has meth labs, pit bulls and shotguns. If it says kapu, best to stay out
