Here are some recommendations from Aussie’s Guide to Hawaii Facebook Group:

  • Tim Tams
  • Vegemite/Aussie peanut butter/Marmite
  • Tea
  • Kettle (also can purchase one in Waikiki, called a “water boiler”)
  • Litre of long life milk (lactose-free if needed)
  • Jar of coffee or mini plunger
  • English Breakfast Tea
  • Weetbix
  • Glen 20 to spray hotel room
  • TIP, pack clothes for each person in each suitcase, in case one gets lost
  • Empty bag for shopping
  • Carry on with a change of clothes (if luggage is lost). Someone recommended 5 tees, 5 undies, 3 shorts, swimmers, a book, iPad, thongs (called slippers in Hawaii), & sneakers in one bag.
  • US converter
  • AUS Powerboard and 1 US adapter (this way you won’t need several US adapters)
  • Laundry capsules / washing power
  • Panadol
  • Snorkels
  • Plane Pal Travel Pillow
  • Jacket for cool nights
  • Toilet spray/deodoriser or matches (for multiple people sharing one toilet)
  • Large size zip-lock bags for shoes
  • Clothes you would wear all the time
  • Bottle opener (in checked luggage not carryon)
  • Body wash
  • Comfy pair of shoes
  • Phone charger
  • Clothes tip- Hawaii’s chill, mostly just need shorts, 3/4 pants, t-shirts, swimmers & beach dress
  • Plastic coated wire hangers (wash clothes and hang on the balcony)
  • Quick dry towels from Kathmandu (great to roll wet clothes in before hanging to dry)
  • Small toaster
  • Reef shoes
  • Small fold up hanging clothesline
  • Paper plates & bowls (struggled to find some at a decent cost in Hawaii. Good for eating breakfast & takeaway in the room)
  • Cadbury chocolate
  • Sarong
  • Hook on scales to weigh your bags (check eBay)
  • Don’t pack towels, hotels have them
  • Tiny teddies, le snacks
  • Lightweight umbrella stroller. Good when kids can’t walk anymore & go on strike
  • Lact ease tablets (take them before latte etc)
  • GoPro
  • Soft dog bed for small kids sleeping on the plane, not joking
  • Bee repellent
  • Boxes of toffeemacs
  • Less clothes more money
  • Reef safe sunscreen
  • Plastic cutlery for room meals
  • Tea (also find it at Kai Coffee “Boston Tea,” Moana “Lubicia,” and ABC stores have Lipton)
  • Coffee satchels
  • Don’t need dress clothes, everyone is casual
  • No large bottles of bathroom products
  • Inflatable beach lounger
  • Pegs- great for pegging undies to your lanai chair so they don’t blow away
  • Toilet paper if you have sensitive skin
  • Bread
  • Protein/shaker for breakfast
  • Soft esky bag
  • Vacuum seal bags for clothes and housekeeping can vacuum the air out
  • Hawaii has gone “bagless,” so bring 1 or 2 foldable bags that fit into your handbags. It’s really handy when you’re buying just one or two small things. FYI- you can also get foldable bags with Hawaii prints at Safeway & ABC stores in Hawaii.
